How to choose an electric mini jet boat
An electric mini jet boat puts a single rider close to the water in a compact, battery-powered boat. Before you choose one, compare more than the headline speed. Hull material, rider-and-gear capacity, transport, charging and the details of your order all matter.
This guide uses the VORTX Mini-X and Mini-R to show what to check before buying your personal electric jet boat.
1. Start with the hull and rider limit
The Mini-X has a welded aluminum hull and a performance-focused character. The Mini-R uses impact-resistant polyethylene and is recreation-focused. Both carry one rider.
The maximum combined rider-and-gear load is 250 lb for the Mini-X and 350 lb for the Mini-R. Count everything you take aboard when comparing that limit with your planned use.
Compare the current Mini-X specifications and Mini-R specifications before choosing your model.
2. Treat runtime as a planning range
VORTX currently lists a typical 27–33 mph speed range, estimated runtime of 40–60 minutes per charge and a charging time of approximately 2 hours for both models. Both use a 72V lithium battery.
Estimated runtime is 40–60 minutes per charge, depending on riding style and operating conditions. Speed, runtime, and charging times vary with rider and gear weight, operating speed, water conditions, temperature, battery condition, and charging equipment. Plan your time on the water with those variables in mind, rather than treating the upper end of a published range as a guarantee.
Use the specified battery and charging equipment and follow the supplied instructions. Review Safety & Owner’s Manual before operating.
3. Check the boat against your transport plan
Compact does not mean every vehicle will fit. Compare the boat’s unpackaged dimensions with your vehicle’s usable space, access opening and payload capacity.
- Mini-X: approximately 87 × 37 × 30 in; approximately 177 lb with battery or 111 lb without battery.
- Mini-R: approximately 87 × 39 × 30 in; approximately 186 lb with battery or 124 lb without battery.
Dimensions are length × width × height. Use suitable lifting assistance and secure both the boat and battery for transport. Confirm fit before relying on a truck bed or SUV for your first trip.
4. Compare what comes with the boat
Both models currently include battery, charger, bilge pump, battery/output display, two riding modes, carbon-fiber accents. The Mini-R also includes Bluetooth speakers, large ride-mode/speed display, rear storage.
Check the selected model and color on the product page and review the final order details before checkout.
5. Confirm price, freight and warranty details
Both models are currently listed at $7,499. VORTX advertises U.S. shipping included and asks customers to confirm their delivery address. A VORTX representative coordinates freight delivery and confirms access requirements after purchase. Ask about your address and delivery access before ordering if you have questions.
Warranty coverage and terms are confirmed with the order documents. Ask for model-specific coverage before purchase, including what is covered and how a claim is handled. Confirm any return and cancellation terms that apply to your order as well.
6. Check your launch location and prepare to ride
Check applicable registration, operator-age, boating-education, equipment and waterway requirements before launching. VORTX recommends an operator age of 16 or older, but local requirements also apply.
Always wear a properly fitted U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket and appropriate personal head protection. Review the safety information before purchase and the Owner’s Manual before operating. Like other small recreational watercraft, a VORTX can capsize or take on water depending on conditions and use.
Choose your VORTX
Start with the Mini-X for its performance-focused aluminum build, or explore the Mini-R for its recreation-focused polyethylene hull and added features. See the side-by-side comparison, then contact VORTX with questions about your fit, delivery address or a demo.
